Loophole could let Sandusky keep $59,000 annual pension

By Vignesh Ramachandran

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse, could still profit from his public pension.

Sandusky stands to collect $58,898 each year, according to PennLive.com, because the crimes he committed are not included on the list of 22 that would force him to give up his benefits.

Pennsylvania's public officials or retirees are required to forfeit their pensions under the State Employees' Retirement System (SERS) if they commit "certain crimes that breach the member's duty of faithful and honest public service." The list does not include sex crimes.

"I think it is nauseating that a convicted pedophile like Sandusky will be collecting a pension while sitting behind bars," Pennsylvania Rep. Brendan Boyle said in a statement. "He certainly doesn't deserve to continue to enjoy the benefit of a taxpayer-funded pension."

Upon his death, Sandusky's wife, Dottie, would be able to get half of the annual payout, PennLive.com reported.

Nicholas Maiale, chairman of the SERS board, told PennLive.com that he will get a legal review of the board's options in this case.?"I am a Penn Stater and I am a citizen of Pennsylvania, and we are all morally outraged about this case and what happened to those kids,? he said, though he is not optimistic?about a forfeiture.

Retired Penn State Vice President Gary Schultz, meanwhile, could lose his pension after being accused of perjury, PennLive.com reported.

Rep. Boyle introduced a bill in 2011, before Sandusky was charged, that is now one of six bills that could broaden the list of crimes that require public workers to give up their pensions, PennLive.com reported.

Sandusky?s sentencing is expected in about three months.

Muscle Car New Classic | Plaza Automotive Center - Anthony ...

Twenty First Century Muscle Cars

If Muscle cars are defined as 2-door coupes with high performance V8 engines then years just don?t matter because now NEW IS CLASSIC!

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8

That?s right, in 2011 Dodge introduced an upgrade to their Charger SRT8 to include a 6.4L, Hemi V8, 470 hp with the ability to reach a top speed of 175.? It looks like a Muscle Car, sounds like a Muscle Car but runs faster and is styled to impress.

Not only is this car an updated version of their 1950?s classic, it also claims to use Fuel Saver Technology getting an estimated 20 MPG.

Surprise, surprise, surprise! This advance allows the driver to select 4 cylinders when driving at less than usual Hemi speed. Nice going Dodge.

The 2012 Dodge Challenger also went through some serious upgrades as well.2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Green Jacket

MSRP for these beauties starts at around $43,000.

Chrysler High Performance!

In 1951, Chrysler was the first to enter the market with a change to the common automobile engine. ?Chrysler reshaped the cylinder heads to create more power, improved the flow or intake and exhaust gases and changed the position of the spark plugs to maximize ignition conversion.? This marked the birth of the Hemi V8.? When the Hemi was first introduced in 1951 it generated 331 HP which at the time was incredibly fast.? Quite a boost into the 21st century with new classics getting up to 556 HP.

Classic Car Recognition

Recognizing the impact on the market for this revisit to the past, Ford and Chevrolet both followed up on the new Muscle Car trend.

Ann Curry Confirms She Is Leaving 'Today'

Ann Curry confirmed early on Thursday morning that she is leaving the "Today" show after little more than a year as co-host.

Speaking to USA Today, Curry said that she would announce to viewers on Thursday's program that her tenure has come to an end.

She said it was "going to be a bit of a tough day" when she broke the news to the audience.

"I'm going to have to tell our viewers," she said. "That's what makes me more emotional than anything. I don't want to leave them. I love them. And I will really miss them."

The paper wrote that Curry has signed a long-term deal with NBC News. She will become a roving national and international correspondent, producing specials and covering the more serious journalism which she has long said comes easiest to her.

However, the announcement brings a swift, sad finish to Curry's tenure as a co-host of the iconic morning show. It was a job she had coveted deeply, and had waited to grab a hold of even as she was passed over once before in favor of Meredith Vieira. But falling ratings and persistent rumblings that she is not the right fit for the job have led NBC to push her out of her position.

It is not yet known exactly what kind of farewell the show will give her. Savannah Guthrie, one of the co-hosts of the third hour, has reportedly already been asked to replace Curry.

In the USA Today interview, Curry struck a somewhat defiant note. She rejected the idea that she had bad chemistry with co-host Matt Lauer, and, when asked if she thought she had been given enough time to settle into her new role after fourteen years as the show's newsreader, said, "No, I do not."

She also said that she had been ready to leave NBC entirely, having been "hurt deeply" by the protracted ugliness of the past week. Since news broke last Wednesday of her impending departure, her every move has been tracked by a cloud of press attention. One report began, "Ann Curry showed up again for work." (NBC maintained a stony silence throughout.)

But Curry said that NBC News president Steve Capus convinced her to stay, offering a job that she described as rich with opportunities for hard news reporting.

It has been widely rumored that she will be making up to $10 million a year with the network. Curry said this was not true.

The brutal conclusion to Curry's hosting career highlights just how important maintaining the supremacy of "Today" is to NBC. The show makes hundreds of millions of dollars in profits every year, but that money was imperiled by the ascendancy of ABC rival "Good Morning America" in the ratings. When that show officially snapped the 16-year "Today" ratings winning streak, media watchers immediately began wondering how NBC would respond. Unfortunately for Curry, the response has cost her what she has called her "dream job."

Subway to scantily-clad women: It?s your fault if you?re harassed

Peter Parks / AFP - Getty Images

A man passes a women wearing shorts as she waits for a subway train in Shanghai on Wednesday. A subway operator in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai has caused uproar by warning women not to wear revealing clothes to avoid being groped by the city's "perverts."

By Ed Flanagan, NBC News

BEIJING ? For women in Shanghai looking to beat the heat this summer with skimpier clothes, the city?s subway authorities have a message: dress appropriately or be ready to deal with the inevitable sexual harassment.?

The controversy online started on June 20 when someone posted on the Shanghai Number 2 Subway Line official Weibo account ? Chinese version of Twitter ? a picture?of a female passenger wearing a revealing dress with the comment: ?If that?s what you wear on the subway, then no wonder you will be sexually harassed! There are perverts riding the subway every day and we can?t catch them all. Girls, you?ve got to respect yourself!?

Outrage over the comment was swift and voluminous, quickly becoming the second-most discussed topic on Weibo with nearly 16,000 forwards and 7,000 comments tagged to the original post alone.

No right to judge!
The overwhelming number of comments condemned the message and its insinuation that revealing dress could be viewed as an invitation for harassment; branding it blatant gender discrimination.?

"It's a woman?s business to choose what to wear, if laws or your regulations do not forbid her from dressing like this, you [the Metro] have no right to chastise them,? wrote one commentator. ?If your logic were right, then all men would harass women in the swimming pool.?

?You have the right to judge whether people are dressing elegantly or not.? And you have the right to like it or not,? wrote another critic of the Shanghai Metro. ?But you have no right to harass anyone!??

Some people also raised questions about the fact that the Shanghai Metro staff took a photo of the unwitting passenger in the first place, and, adding insult to injury, used the photo in its controversial public service announcement.?

Zhejiang Province Police

The Zhejiang province police department's diagram meant to give women guidance on how men's lurking eyes can lead to sexual harrassment.

?First I think the Metro has no right to insult others, especially their passengers. It's a matter of professional decency,? wrote Hao Junbo, a lawyer on Weibo. ?If the Metro published this person's picture without approval beforehand, it violates the passenger's rights.?

Responding to the criticism, Lan Tian, a press officer for Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the authority that runs the Shanghai subway, justified the company?s comments to the Chinese state newspaper Global Times.

"As the city's subway operator, we have the responsibility to warn women of the potential danger of sexual harassment on the subway," he told the Global Times. "At the same time, we are not justifying any kind of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior."?

Nevertheless, perhaps inspired by the general sentiment expressed online, a couple days later on June 24, several women went to another subway station in Shanghai to protest the Weibo post by the Shanghai Metro.

Donning black veils that covered their faces and holding signs that said things like, ?Just because I'm slutty doesn't mean you can be dirty,? the girls rode the subway in an attempt to call attention to the issue.

Interestingly, this time though, online sentiment was against the protestors, with many arguing that women should in fact dress more conservatively while riding the subway. A recent online poll by Sina Weibo found that 55 percent of over 10,000 people agreed with that sentiment.

Elaborate diagrams to thwart harassment
By all accounts, reports of sexual harassment on the Shanghai metro have been on the rise this year. An editorial in Wednesday?s edition of China?s People?s Daily noted that there had been seven cases of sexual harassment since May of this year.

There has been a greater emphasis nationally to raise awareness about sexual harassment and to educate Chinese women on how to protect themselves. But some of the recent articles on how to avoid becoming a victim of sexual harassment verge on the ridiculous.?

A recent article by the popular Chinese web portal, QQ, includes a number of graphics showing how men attempt to harass women by looking up skirts on elevators or even when women try on shoes at department stores. ?

But this diagram put out on the Zhejiang province police department?s official Weibo account earlier this year was perhaps the most puzzling. It looks like an elaborate SAT math question requiring a thorough grounding in geometry. For example, the second and third illustrations are designed to help women understand the angles at which men can position their heads or bodies to look up their skirts while riding the subway.

If the diagram is confusing already with its multiple diagrams, consider the English translation of the explanation:

?If the eyes of the ?observer?, i.e.?the point?E,?is right on the extension of?segment BC, then point B would fall into his eyesight. Then, let's make another?line?of DE which goes through E and is?perpendicular to?the extension of AC, then the right triangle of DEC is similar to the?right triangle of ABC. So clearly, the length of DC is the horizontal?distance between the man's eye and the lady?s skirt.?Ladies, have you figured that out???

Unsure if you have figured out whether that man is looking up your skirt? Consult the closest math teacher in your subway car.

Vitamin D May Slow Prostate Cancer Growth, says Research ...

proctology cartoon

High-doses of vitamin D supplements could keep prostate cancer cells from proliferating, revealed one recent study funded by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Dr. Reinhold Vieth and his colleagues orally administered 400, 10,000, and 40,000 IUs of vitamin D daily to 66 men due for radical prostatectomy, a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the prostate gland to keep prostate cancer from spreading. The result: those who swallowed 40,000 IUs of vitamin D everyday had the highest levels of calcitriol, a hormone whose anticancer potential has been recognized due to?anti-neoplastic or anti-tumor mechanism and its ability to initiate programmed killing of cancer cells?(apoptosis). Calcitriol?is known to lower Ki67 levels. Ki67 is a protein that indicates the severity of prostate cancer. The higher the Ki67 concentration, the more advanced a man?s prostate cancer is.

Calcitriol also lowers elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA)?levels and inhibits the mutation of androgen receptors (AR), two biomarkers of prostate cancer. The hormone also cuts off prostate tumors? blood supply, which keeps them from growing and spreading. But vitamin D doesn?t just jack up calcitriol levels. It also prevents prostate cancer cells from multiplying rapidly and metastasizing.

A Johns Hopkins report stated that there is a positive link between prostate cancer and vitamin D, and that men over 50 who have sub-optimal serum vitamin D levels are particularly more prone to it.?Due to certain health and geographical factors some men may be hard-pressed at producing natural vitamin D via sunlight exposure. ?Johns Hopkins said that this shouldn?t be a problem at all, given the wide availability of vitamin D supplements in the market.

Not only is vitamin D supplementation a potent chemopreventive intervention. It?s also safer than conventional prostate cancer treatments. Side effects of mainstream prostate cancer therapies such as radical prostatectomy, radiation therapy, and oral intake of hormone-blocking meds include increased likelihood to develop blood clots, sexual dysfunction, and embarrassing uro-genital problems such as urinary incontinence.

Vieth remarked that vitamin D appears to restore the body?s self-regulating function, something that disappears in out-of-control situations like cancer. Prostate cancer patients ?now have greater hope because of the benefits of vitamin D. ?Just don?t forget to do so under the supervision and guidance of a health professional who?s well-versed in all forms of prostate cancer treatment.

On a damp, gray Tuesday, she demonstrated her strong throwing arm ? this time, with a softball in her hand.

Lavoie uncorked a throw of 145 feet, 6 inches to win the ages 13-14 softball throw during the 35th Maine Hershey Track and Field State Championship meet at Pendleton Street Field in Brewer.

?I?ve been playing baseball and I realized that I was able to throw a lot farther than most of the girls my age,? Lavoie said.

?My farthest throw I?ve done is 157, so I was trying to get 160 today, but I don?t know what happened,? she said. ?The ball was kind of wet and it was harder to throw.?

More than 200 youngsters ages 9 to 14 earned the right to compete in the state meet, which is run by the Maine Recreation and Parks Association and sponsored by the Hershey Co.

The athletes, who came from cities and towns across Maine, were vying to earn spots in the Hershey Track and Field Games North American Final, scheduled Aug. 4-5 in Hershey, Pa.

Tim Baude, Maine chairman for the Hershey Games, said each state and Canadian province is guaranteed five competitors at the North American Final. Mainers are going up against competitors from the other New England states and the Maritimes.

He said it will be approximately two weeks before any of the Maine winners learn whether they earned a trip to Hershey.

?[It?s a] four-day, all-expenses-paid trip by Hershey,? said Baude, adding that the athletes and their parents are flown to Pennsylvania, where they stay and eat for free. ?They actually open the [candy-making] plant one day for us. They get to go to Hershey Park, stay at college dorms and get to meet kids from all around the United States and Canada.?

Tuesday?s meet brought together runners, jumpers and throwers in three different age groups: 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.

Aspen Cote of Madawaska and Daniel Hemminger of Portland demonstrated their versatility as three-event winners.

Cote claimed the 100 meters (14.27 seconds), the 200 (29.71) and the long jump (7 feet, 4? inches) in the girls 13-14 age group. Hemminger won the 100 (14.32) and also took the 200 (29.80) and the softball throw (147-10) for boys ages 11-12.

Adam Bohlen of Bucksport enjoyed a successful day on the track in the boys 13-14 division. He claimed the 1,600 with a time of 5:41.43 and then won the 800 in 2:34.69.

?It felt great,? said the 13-year-old, who runs middle school cross country and track in Bucksport. ?I beat my last record [in the 1,600] by 10 seconds.?

In both races, Bohlen had to fend off late challenges by competitors. He edged Jake Flewelling of Easton in the 1,600 and Thomas Dupuy of Greenville in the 800.

?I heard him [Flewelling] behind me, but that means I know the last lap I had to go even harder,? Bohlen said.

Caribou?s Parker Deprey won the 100 (16.12), the softball throw (119-9) and ran on the first-place 4?100 relay (1:10.87) along with Ethan Holdsworth, Carter Quist and Jordan Duplissie in the 9-10 division. Isaac Robison of Bangor won the 100 (13.36) and the long jump (8-7) for 13-14 boys.

Niko Naranja of Fort Kent won the 400 meters (1:13.67) and was part of a first-place quartet in the 4?100 (1:04.38) along with Alex Nissenbaum, Zachary Nadeau and Max Ouellette among 11- and 12-year-olds.

That group continued Fort Kent?s tradition of excellence in the boys relay. Nadeau, Naranjo and Ouellette had been part of previous Hershey winners.

?If you actually trust your friends, that they can do well, you have this feeling that it?s going to be easier for you to push it because they?re depending on you and themselves,? Ouellette said.

Aroostook County sent 133 athletes to the meet, including a talented 9-10 girls contingent. Paige Espling of Caribou won both the 400 (1:25.61) and the long jump (6-7?) and finished second to Caribou?s Emma Hixon by one-hundredth of a second in the 50.

?I start out jogging and then when I get to that [last] corner I usually start sprinting,? Espling said of the 400.

Bailey Bellefleur of St. Agatha, running for Fort Kent, showed off her speed in the 11-12 girls bracket. The 11-year-old won both the 100 (14.82) and the 200 (31.40).

Fort Kent teammate Dolice Tanguay was a double winner among the 9-10 girls, taking the 100 (16.02) and the 200 (33.94). Kolleen Bouchard of Houlton, competing in the 11-12 girls, threw the softball 129-2 to earn first place and was second in the 100.

?I don?t know if it?s enough to make it to Hershey. They can throw far down there,? she said of her softball throw.

Bouchard also is playing in an all-star softball tournament at Hermon.

Other girls winners included ? ages 9-10, girls: 4?100, Houlton (Emma Drew, Alyssa Abbotoni, Grace Johnson, Lauren McGillicuddy), 1:14.71; softball throw, Alana Legasse (PI), 65-8; boys: 50, Connor Demerchant (PI), 8.50; 400, Ethan Holdsworth (Car), 1:19.21; 200, Sawyer Deprey (Car), 34.12; long jump, Holden Stoutameyer (PI) 6-7.

Judge may grant house arrest to Pa. monsignor

(AP) ? A judge indicated Tuesday she might release a convicted Roman Catholic monsignor to await sentencing if the Vatican will agree not to harbor him in the event he flees to Rome.

Monsignor William Lynn, the first U.S. church official prosecuted for his handling of child-abuse complaints, was convicted last week of one felony child endangerment count for his role in the cover-up of complaints at the Philadelphia archdiocese.

Common Pleas Judge M. Teresa Sarmina considered his request Tuesday for home detention while he awaits sentencing but ordered him to remain jailed, pending a July 5 court date when she will reconsider the request.

Lynn, 61, faces about 3-1/2 to seven years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 13. His lawyers insist he is not a flight risk and want him released on house arrest until then. He surrendered his passport to the court Tuesday.

"He doesn't want to go to France. He doesn't want to go to Spain. He doesn't want to go to the Vatican ... He just wants to go back to St. Joe's Parish in Pennsylvania," defense lawyer Tom Bergstrom said after the hearing.

But prosecutors urged the judge to keep Lynn in jail, offering up a news story that said that 35 Roman Catholic priests have fled during criminal cases. Most apparently fled before trial, often to their native country, Sarmina noted.

The jury convicted Lynn of endangering a victim of now-defrocked priest Edward Avery, who is now in prison after admitting he sexually assaulted an altar boy in church in 1999. Lynn knew Avery had been credibly accused of abuse years earlier. As secretary for clergy, Lynn had him sent for sexual-offender treatment, but knew he was later sent to live in a parish.

Lynn appeared in court Tuesday, wearing a black shirt and trousers but not the religious collar he sported for the three-month trial. He offered his relatives a slight smile, but otherwise did not show any emotion.

Defense lawyer Jeffrey M. Lindy called it preposterous to think the Vatican would harbor Lynn, given the near-silence from the church since his arrest last year, when he was put on leave and lost his post running a large Downingtown parish.

"He hasn't heard from the archdiocese, let alone the Vatican, so how is it possible that anybody in the Vatican would help him out?" Lindy said.

The archdiocese has paid for Lynn's defense, however.

Lynn's lawyers propose that he live with a member of Lynn's extended family in northeast Philadelphia while on house arrest.

Sarmina had revoked his bail after the verdict Friday and sent him to jail. She warned Lynn on Tuesday that he would give up his appeal rights if he flees. The monsignor pledged not to fight extradition from the Vatican or anywhere else.

The judge said she also would double his bail to $100,000 if she releases him.

Defense lawyers hope to overturn Lynn's conviction on appeal.

The jury acquitted Lynn of two other charges, a second endangerment charge and conspiracy. He worked at archdiocesan headquarters from 1991 to 2004, most of it under Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua.

In Missouri, another church official has been charged. Bishop Robert Finn of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph is scheduled to be tried on misdemeanor failure to report suspected child abuse in the case of pornographic photos of children found on a priest's laptop.

The song remains the same in pop mash-up

By Kurt Schlosser

If you haven't heard any of the songs in this pop music mash-up, you're either very lucky or we should be discussing rock. Like the one you live under.

YouTube user Vissagan has uploaded a 3:55 nod to commercial radio, earworms, viral videos, the tween next door and the club downtown with this mix of the best music Auto-Tune can produce.

The seamless blend of bubblegum transitions from Rihanna to Katy Perry to Carly Rae Jepsen to ... we've lost track, we're too busy dancing. And filming a lip dub. And remembering prom.

Here come boy banders One Direction, and LMFAO, and Flo Rida, and Coldplay, and ... is summer over yet? Close your windows!

Video: One Direction: 'We don't follow the stereotype'

Vissagan says in the video description, "I was listening to the radio when I realized I could mix every song I had just heard. Pop songs are so replaceable these days ..."

Perhaps the artists who created these songs would view that as a good thing. You might not like Katy Perry in particular, but thanks to all the stuff that sounds like Katy Perry, you're listening to a lot of Katy Perry.

No one here is?opposed to a little dance pop on the radio dial. But when even the shuffle function on?your iPod is out of ideas, it's time to mix things up -- in a good way.??

Complex thinking behind the bow and arrow

ScienceDaily (June 25, 2012) ? University of T?bingen and South African researchers have revealed sophisticated design and technology developed by early humans.

The bow and arrow have long been regarded as a possible indicator of culture in prehistoric times. Bows and arrows appear to have been in use for some 64,000 years, given evidence from South Africa. Until recently, their significance in human cognitive ability was unclear. Now two researchers have been able to decode the conceptual foundations of the bow and arrow. The results of the study, by Miriam Haidle of the Heidelberg Academy's ROCEEH project (sponsored by the Senckenberg Research Institute) and the University of T?bingen and Marlize Lombard of the University of Johannesburg, appear in the latest edition of the Cambridge Archaeological Journal.

Using archaeological finds and ethnological parallels, the two researchers reconstructed the steps needed to make a bow and arrows. These are complimentary tools -- separate, but developed interdependently. The bow is the controlling element, while the arrows can be used more flexibly and are interchangeable. About 2.5 million years ago, humans first used tools to make other tools then to make tools assembled from different parts to make a unit with particular qualities, such as wooden spears with stone spearheads (ca. 200,000-300,000 years ago.) The bow and arrow and other complementary tool sets made it possible for prehistoric humans to greatly increase the flexibility of their reactions.

There are many basic complementary tool sets: needle and thread, fishing rod and line, hammer and chisel. The bow and arrow are a particularly complex example. The reconstruction of the technique shows that no less than ten different tools are needed to manufacture a simple bow and arrows with foreshafts. It takes 22 raw materials and three semi-finished goods (binding materials, multi-component glue) and five production phases to make a bow, and further steps to make the arrows to go with it. The study was able to show a high level of complexity in the use of tools at an early stage in the history of homo sapiens.

The Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities project "The Role of Culture in Early Expansions of Humans" (ROCEEH) incorporates archaeologists, paleoanthropologists, palaeobiologists and geographers, working together to find out where the first humans arose, where they moved to in Africa and Eurasia, and why. The project covers the time between three million years ago and the last glacial maximum 20,000 years ago. The focus is on when, where, and in what form a changing climate, evolution and cultural development of early humans enabled them to expand the behavioral niche of a large primate within Africa and to find new roles outside of Africa. The University of T?bingen and the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt have been cooperating on this 20-year Heidelberg Academy project since 2008.

Tips To Save Money on Marketing a Business | The Local Marketing ...

The most effective marketing methods such as advertising in newspapers, popular magazines, on TV are very expensive for small businesses, especially for most start-ups.

Thanks to Internet, in the recent years, some very powerful, and cost-effective, even free marketing strategies have become popular.

Here are some tips to help you save money on marketing your business without sacrificing quality or results. In fact, some of them are very affective to boost your business cost effectively and fast. Implement them repeatedly and save a lot of money and time while attracting hundreds of thousands of more visitors to your website.

1. Link Exchanges

To exchange links with other Web sites is the most popular marketing strategy used by travel and tourism related businesses. Link exchanges help increase link popularity, and the chances to get higher search engine placements and ranks.

In addition, you will have higher chances to be seen by more surfers, to attract more visitors to your Web site, which will highly increase your sales, and return on investment (ROI).

To find the Web sites which are willing to reciprocate links, without the risk of spamming anyone, go to a major search engine such as Yahoo!, Google, MSN, and write in the search bar, for example, ?Travel & Tourism Link Exchanges? or, ?Travel & Tourism Reciprocal Links?.

The Web sites listed in the first 20 in these sections will provide you with the high quality link exchange resources. To exchange links with these higher ranked Web sites will also help your Web sites get higher ranks.

2. Directories

It is a good strategy to submit your Web site to Travel & Tourism Directories. Because directories have a lot of surfers and visitors who are trying to find the travel and tourism related businesses who offer the best deals to match their needs.

You can reach millions of targeted prospective buyers among these directories? visitors who might be your loyal customers later on. So, you should not underestimate the power of Directory marketing, and start to submit your Web site to the Travel & Tourism Directories as soon as possible. They will help you promote your business affectively, and mostly for FREE.

You can also find important marketing tips and resources in Directories to grow your business fast.

3. Pictures & Photographs

Images are vital elements to attract readers? attention to your ads, to your articles & press releases, to your Web sites. Make sure you use charming photos everywhere you can.

How and where to get such charming photos? Always keep in mind that almost all photos and images you can find on the Internet have Copy Rights, which means it?s illegal to use them, so you should never re-publish them without the written permission of the original owners. Or, you will have to pay big amounts of money to settle the possible sues.

You can buy photos online if you find the ones you would like to use. But, the prices of real nice photos are high.

The best cost-effective solution is to take photos yourself, which will also give you the freedom to choose the places, angles, lights, and colors before taking the pictures to your heart?s content.

When taking photographs, try to get as many shots in as possible. Then you would not need to pay other photographers to purchase photos to use in your websites, articles, press releases, and advertisements.

To take photographs yourself will save you a lot of money. If you have a library of images for your advertising needs, you will not only save tremendous amount of money, but save a lot of time, too. You can use them in your brochures, articles, press releases, as well as in your websites, and in your advertisements whenever you need..

4. Try to do What You can Yourself

You can, of course, hire experts to design your website, for writing press releases, articles, copy writing, advertising, photography, professionally.

But, you can do them, at least some of them, yourself when you want to save money. You will then spend money only for tasks that really need the expertise of a professional.

Keeping this in mind, we have provided information in the ?Grow Your Business Fast? program, on how to write a successful article yourself, how to write press releases in a traditional news story format, that will look real professional, how to market your products, services, informational material, affiliate programs to become a marketing champion in a few months very cost effectively, saving a lot of money.

5. Articles

When you write an article you can send it out yourself, or send it to a free or pro article distributor who will disseminate it to newsletters, e-zines, magazines, local and national newspapers, websites; follow it up and see if it was published in any of these publications. If it was, you can be sure that it covers certain required values.

Then you can use your ?accepted & published? article, or at least parts of it, in your website, in your sales letters, in your advertisements, you can even write it in the traditional news story format, and send it to a press release distributor to be sent out to media outlets.

6. Press-Releases

The best way to send your press releases out, is to submit it to a free or pro press release distributor. If you select a good one, they would send your press release to the media outlets where you would get the best results.

Some of them are experts who know how to do it, depending on their own experiences. If you choose a pro distributor, your chances to get outstanding results would be higher.

Your press release(s) that an editor wrote a news on and published in a popular publication would attract a lot of visitors to your Web site, eventually increases your sales tremendously; also it would be a good sample for you to use the same values in your future press releases.

7. Your Ads

You can implement the same strategies explained in #3 above, for your ads, too. Watch closely which of your ads generated more traffic and sales. Then, use them at your website, in your newsletter, other related newsletters, use the most powerful lines in your signature file, in your classified ads, in the safe mailing lists, e-zines, in your solo ads ? everywhere possible, over and over again. Get the same positive results repeatedly.

Astronomers using NASA's Kepler planet-hunting spacecraft have discovered an Oscar and Felix among extrasolar planets ? an odd couple with orbits so close to each other that at times the larger planet looms more than twice as large as the full moon in the second planet's night sky.

The duo orbits a star 750 light-years from Earth, one sun among some 150,000 stars that Kepler monitors in the hunt for Earth-like planets orbiting sun-like stars at Earth-like distances.

This pair, however, occupies a system unlike any detected so far.

Individually, each planet falls into a class detected elsewhere. The smaller, inner planet, Kepler-36b, has about 4.5 times Earth's mass and is about 1.5 times as large. It's a rocky orb with an estimated 30 percent of its mass in the form of iron.

Its larger, outer companion Kepler-36c, is more like a mini Neptune. It boasts eight times Earth's mass, but has a density suggesting a gas-giant wannabe with a "substantial" atmosphere of hydrogen and helium, according to the team making the discovery.

?But the planets' two orbits are separated by an average of only about 1.2 million miles ? cosmic overcrowding by the standards of Earth's planetary neighborhood. Mars' orbit is about 49 million miles outside Earth's path, while Venus' orbital path lies roughly 27 million miles inside Earth's.

Two planets of such dramatically different compositions and such tightly packed orbits represent "an exciting system," says Eric Agol, an astronomer at the University of Washington in Seattle and one of the two lead authors on the formal report of the finding published Thursday on Sciencexpress, an online adjunct to the journal Science.

The planets reach their closest encounters ? less than 1.2 million miles apart ? when they line up on the same side of the star once every 97 days on average, in a configuration known as an inferior conjunction.

Life is highly unlikely on these orbs. They are so close to their host star ? with orbits of 13.8 days for the inner planet and 16.2 days for the outer planet ? that temperatures hover between 1,200 and 1,300 degrees F.

And they are likely to get worse. Kepler-36b is from 2 billion to 3 billion years older than the sun, the team estimates. The star is a so-called sub-giant, meaning it's burned up the hydrogen in its core and is headed down a path that will turn it into a red giant. The star's core is contracting, allowing it to burn hotter and brighter ? hot enough to begin fusing the hydrogen outside the core. Like the sun's end-of-life sequence, Kepler-36's fiery atmosphere will expand much farther into space than it does now, engulfing the odd couple.

As planet-hunters uncover such seemingly bizarre systems, "we're constantly being surprised," says Joshua Carter, the other lead author and a Hubble Fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass. "But we're just surprised because we're basing our preconceptions on the solar system."

Planets in our solar system tend to have organized into two groups ? the rocky inner planets and the giant, gaseous outer planets. The rocky planets formed close to the sun, where any gas the planets' gravity couldn't capture and retain was vaporized. Beyond the so-called snow line, between Mars and Jupiter, temperatures were cool enough for gas to remain a gas, as well as to shift from gas, to liquid, and finally ice.

With orbits so close and so close to their star, but with such a stark contrast in density (an eight-fold difference) and composition, the odd couple would seem to require a different explanation, the researchers say. It's possible that the rocky inner planet formed inside the frost line, while the mini-Neptune formed outside and migrated inward over time, Dr. Agol acknowledges. Migration seems to be the leading explanation for the large number of gas giants ? so-called hot Jupiters and Neptunes ? planet hunters have uncovered during the past two decades.

Migration explanations could account for the system the team detected, Dr. Carter agrees. But such an explanation "would have to simultaneously account for the closeness and the disparity in density."

One possible explanation Agol says he finds appealing is a variation of migration where both planets began as gas-giant wannabes beyond the snow line, then migrated in with time and settled into the orbits the team identified. But the inner planet may not have had enough mass to allow its gravity to retain its atmosphere so close to its stellar furnace, while the larger of the two was just far enough away from the star and just big enough for its gravity to keep a grip on an atmosphere.

"One of the most exciting things about this system is that maybe these planets are straddling a line" that determines whether planets, which may have started out with comparable masses when they first formed, will retain or lose their atmospheres, he says.

The team found the system as it analyzed data released early in Kepler?s mission. The craft launched in March 2009 and is now in an extended phase of its mission.

Kepler detects candidate planets by constantly watching the 150,000 stars in its field of view for the slight dimming a planet would impart as it passes in front of its host star. That dimming revealed the presence of the larger of the two planets orbiting Kepler-36. But irregularities in the timing of the dimming suggested that the bigger planet might have a sibling.

During the past year or so, as Kepler gather more data on the system, Carter and Agol have been perfecting a mathematical tool for analyzing such irregularities to tease out information on both planets from the subtle dimming effects Kepler picks up.

Kepler's exquisite measurements of key properties of the host star allowed the team to use the transits to determine the size of each planet, while the orbital periods allowed the team to estimate the masses of the planets ? calculations that become more precise when the gravitation interaction between the two planets is included. Armed with these key traits, the researchers estimated the density for each planet, allowing them to distinguish the difference between the mini Neptune and the rocky super Earth.
