Pats' Gronkowski needs surgery on arm

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) ? Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski needs surgery on his broken left arm, a person with knowledge of the injury told The Associated Press.

Gronkowski was injured on the Patriots' eighth offensive play of Sunday's 41-28 victory over Houston. He previously missed five regular-season games and is done for these playoffs.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not released details of the injury.

"I'm not sure," coach Bill Belichick said after the game when asked if Gronkowski had broken his arm.

Asked if Gronkowski had been taken to a hospital, Belichick said, "Look, I just walked off the field."

He also said "he wouldn't have played if he wasn't ready" and that "the doctors handle the medical decisions."

The Patriots also lost running back Danny Woodhead for the game when he hurt his thumb carrying the ball on their first offensive play. The club provided no update on his condition.

Rookie defensive end Chandler Jones hurt his ankle later in the game.

The Patriots will be home against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC championship game next Sunday with the winner advancing to the Super Bowl two weeks later.

Gronkowski had broken his left forearm while blocking for an extra point near the end of New England's 59-24 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 18 and underwent surgery. He missed five games and returned for the regular-season finale, a 28-0 win over the Miami Dolphins.

He was reinjured just 6:44 into Sunday's game on a deep pass down the right sideline from Tom Brady. Gronkowski fell out of bounds as the pass dropped incomplete.

He sat on the bench, writhing in pain, while talking to team doctor Thomas Gill before heading to the locker room.

Brady provided no information on the condition of one of his most important teammates.

"I don't know anything about that," Brady said. "I haven't heard anything."

Gronkowski's teammates said that the team would miss him but that other players have to contribute.

"It's hard to replace a player like him because he's a freak of nature," tight end Aaron Hernandez said, "but everyone has to step up and everyone has to keep making plays so we can keep it rolling. (He) definitely helps me out because so much attention is on him.

"It's a big loss and you can't replace a player like him."

Last season, Gronkowski's status was listed as questionable for the Super Bowl just 48 hours before the New York Giants 21-17 victory. He had suffered a high sprain to his left ankle two weeks earlier in the Patriots' 23-20 win over the Ravens in the AFC championship game. That hampered him in the Super Bowl in which he had just two catches for 26 yards after a season in which he had 105 receptions, 15 of them in the other two postseason games.

After the season, he had arthroscopic surgery on the ankle.

On Sunday, backup tight end Michael Hoomanawanui got more action once Gronkowski left.

"I just saw him a little bit ago," Hoomanawanui said. "A guy with that much talent, it stinks. There's no other way to put it. I went down with a knee injury last year that ended my season and you never want to see that for anyone, for an opponent, but let alone a guy that you spend a lot of time with each and every day."

Asked if Gronkowski would miss the rest of the postseason, Hoomanawanui said, "I haven't heard yet. He looks like he was hurting. I'm sure we'll find out here soon enough."

Google 'currently working' on Google Maps redirect fix on Windows Phone, explains former stance

Google Maps no longer redirecting to Google Search on Window Phone, Google explains

As recently as yesterday, Google was explaining its auto-redirect of Google Maps on Windows Phone devices to Google.com as a question of incompatibility rather than one of choice. "The mobile web version of Google Maps is optimized for WebKit browsers such as Chrome and Safari. However, since Internet Explorer is not a WebKit browser, Windows Phone devices are not able to access Google Maps for the mobile web," Google told us yesterday. Case closed, right? Apparently not.

As The Next Web reports, Google's changing its tune today, and is working on a redirect as we speak. "We periodically test Google Maps compatibility with mobile browsers to make sure we deliver the best experience for those users," the statement reads. "In our last test, IE mobile still did not offer a good maps experience with no ability to pan or zoom and perform basic map functionality. As a result, we chose to continue to redirect IE mobile users to Google.com where they could at least make local searches. The Firefox mobile browser did offer a somewhat better user experience and that's why there is no redirect for those users," it continues. The kicker? "Recent improvements to IE mobile and Google Maps now deliver a better experience and we are currently working to remove the redirect. We will continue to test Google Maps compatibility with other mobile browsers to ensure the best possible experience for users." So! It looks like Windows Phone users employing Internet Explorer for Google Maps will soon be back in business. As of right now, we're still seeing the redirect in place, but feel free to let us know if you're already seeing the fix enabled!

Which Brand Of Diesel Generators Is The Best? | Ovarian Cervical ...

The demand for energy continues to swell as industries push the limits of innovation and technology. As these industries continue to grow, so does their need for energy, especially its availability in offshore and extreme environments.

The demand for remote energy is so high that it has introduced an entirely new industry which caters to its needs. Energy rental is as crucial to everyday business as these industries are to the daily functioning of human life.

Needless to say, the most important concern of industries in terms of rented energy is dependability. Performance efficiency, mobility, and cost-efficiency also come next, all of which are crucial to industry operations.

There is good reason the biggest industries of the world depend on CAT for diesel generators, which is the most widely used tool for rented energy in industries operating in remote locations, as well as those with extremely high power demands but are still well inside the power grid. Conditions which require diesel generators are often harsh; the requirement is large; and the stakes are very high.

For instance, a generator for oil and gas in Singapore supplies sufficient energy so as not to paralyse an entire portion of the country?s oil and gas supply. In the first place, even the quickest interruptions in operations of these industries will mean great losses in income as well as to the public which ultimately uses its products.

The diesel generator fleet of Caterpillar was designed particularly for big industries, particularly oil and gas, mining, agriculture, utilities, and other remote accommodations. These generator units feature integral fuel tanks, very efficient engines, and manual and automatic controls. They are also designed for easy transportability and setup, which is especially useful for trouble-free accessibility by industries in remote locations. These diesel generators work seamlessly as sources of Prime Power, Standby Power, as well as Peak Shaving. In the long run, an efficient power system offers more profits and gives to the public a reliable energy supply as well.

Hunt begins for British Spitfires buried in Myanmar

LONDON (Reuters) - A British farmer is heading to Myanmar to lead efforts to unearth more than 30 Spitfire fighter planes, 17 years after he first heard rumors they were buried under a World War Two airfield.

Among the 21-strong team accompanying flying buff David Cundall on Saturday will be Stanley Coombe, now in his early 90s, who was stationed in Myanmar at the end of the war and saw crates of Spitfires being buried under Mingaladon airfield.

Why 36 planes, or more, were buried is a source of much speculation. Myanmar, also known as Burma, is a former British colony and was briefly held by Japan during World War Two.

After four years of brutal battles against the Japanese, the victorious British buried much of their inventory in 1945.

"I've met all the eyewitnesses and I believe they are telling me the truth. I think we will find perfectly preserved aircraft" Cundall, who believes the aircraft are buried at a depth of 10 meters, said on Friday.

"Because there is no oxygen at this depth there will be no corrosion," he said.

The propeller-driven, single-seat Spitfire is one of the most iconic aircraft in British history and played a decisive role in the Battle of Britain aerial war against German forces in 1940. Few functional Spitfires remain today.

The team's chief archaeologist, Andy Brockman, likened the project to a police mystery.

"We've got a crime scene, we've got a missing person, and we've got various strands of evidence," he said.

British rule in Myanmar eventually gave way to a military junta, leading to a cooling of ties with the West. However, relations have thawed in the last year as President Thein Sein has enacted political reforms.

British Prime Minister David Cameron met Thein Sein during a visit to Myanmar last year, where Cameron announced backing for the partial suspension of European Union sanctions on Myanmar. The Spitfires were also discussed.

Cundall is expected to receive 30 percent of any Spitfires found and said he will bring the aircraft back to Britain. The rest will go to his Myanmar agents and the Myanmar government.

Firms including WarGaming.com, JCB and Jaguar Land Rover are sponsoring the trip.

Paekakariki Holiday Park

KENT BLECHYNDEN/Fairfax NZ

CLOSE TO HOME: Campers at the Paekakariki Holiday Park. Conor Twyford and her twin sons, left to right, 7 year old Joseph Rockell and Patrick Rockell, 7, and Sacha Kilmister, 4, and Jacob Kilmister, 7.

The return of the "old-school" caravan is part of a surge in interest from New Zealanders, particularly young families, in camping in New Zealand.

Department of Conservation Wellington visitor centre manager Wendy Challis said while the cost was appealing - as low as $6 per night to stay in a DOC camp ground - the surge was also being pushed by people "getting back to nature".

The environmental benefits of camping were also appealing to people, she said. "It's a greater awareness and appetite of what we have at our own doorstep."

It was a secret long-known to overseas visitors, who had been camping in New Zealand in droves for years, as had retired New Zealanders.

"DOC campgrounds are a hot favourite," Ms Challis said.

For Stokes Valley couple Naomi and Josh Cooper, the decision to camp at the Paekakariki Holiday Park this summer was partly driven by money but also as "an experience" for their daughters, Heilee, 10, and Jorja, 9.

The Coopers had not been camping since their early 20s and wanted their daughters to experience the camaraderie they remembered of children at camping sites. "Also, with adult campers, the adults are really friendly people," Mrs Cooper said.

Paekakariki had the added bonus of welcoming their great dane-bull mastiff cross, Dodge.

Pukerua Bay woman Conor Twyford knows the benefits of camping well.

Camping in Paekakariki with her two twin sons, Joseph and Patrick Rockell, 7, only 10 minutes from home, she has the enjoyment of camping with the comforts of home. "My husband can go home and bring stuff we forgot. We love it. This is the fourth year we have done it."

But, costing $90 just for three nights camping, the bargain aspect also played its part, she said.

"I haven't got a lot of leave this year, so we can do something quickly and feel like we have had a proper holiday."

Martinborough Top 10 Holiday Park owner Frank Cornelissen said while people were saving a bit of money by staying in campgrounds rather than resorts or hotels, they were not skimping on dining and drinking out.

"The whole family can go away for not a lot of money."

There was a "definite" increase in people choosing to camp in recent years, with a noticeable increase in the return of "old-school" caravans.

As well as the classic family camping holiday, he was seeing a lot of younger groups of friends.

Top 10 Holiday Parks chairman Gerald Nolan said campgrounds were generally full at this time of year, but there had been a surge in people tenting.

New Zealand Motor Caravan Association general manager Bruce Lochore said membership in the last year had risen by 13 per cent - largely driven by baby boomers retiring. Those who would have retired to a $450,000 bach were now spending $150,000 on a mobile home, which was not only cheaper, but gave them more freedom.

Retirees these days also seemed to have more energy to travel.

"They want to make the most of it."

Lawyers ready for key hearing in theater shooting

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) ? Prosecutors and defense lawyers in the Colorado theater shooting case said Wednesday that they're ready for a crucial hearing next week in which prosecutors will outline their case against James Holmes.

The lawyers and Holmes appeared before state District Judge William B. Sylvester to make sure everything is prepared for the hearing. It starts Monday and is scheduled to run all week.

At its conclusion, Sylvester will decide if the evidence is sufficient to put Holmes on trial.

Holmes is charged with killing 12 people and wounding 70 on July 20 in a movie theater in the Denver suburb of Aurora. Prosecutors say he opened fire during a midnight showing of the Batman movie "The Dark Night Rises."

During Wednesday's hearing, prosecutors and defense lawyers also went to Sylvester's bench to discuss a sealed motion from the prosecution that made some reference to witnesses. Sylvester said he planned to rule on it later in the day but wouldn't refer to witnesses by name.

Holmes didn't say anything during the half-hour hearing.

He is charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder and hasn't been asked to enter a plea yet. His lawyers have said he suffers from mental illness.

The preliminary hearing will give the public its first officially sanctioned look at much of the evidence against Holmes.

Sylvester imposed a gag order shortly after Holmes' arrest barring attorneys and investigators from speaking publicly about the case, and many documents have been sealed.

The University of Colorado, where Holmes was a graduate student, has also been tight-lipped about the case.

At prosecutors' request, Sylvester barred the university from releasing records requested by numerous media organizations. Prosecutors argued that the information could jeopardize Holmes' right to a fair trial. Sylvester initially agreed but amended his order last month to allow the release after media organizations objected in court.

Holmes was enrolled in a Ph.D. neuroscience program at the university. Investigators said he began stockpiling firearms and ammunition while taking classes in the spring.

In June, he made threats to a professor and on June 10 filed withdrawal papers after failing a year-end exam, prosecutors said. The next day he saw his school psychiatrist who tried to report him to a campus security committee, according to Holmes' lawyers.
