The ordinance to bring red light cameras to St. Pete Beach has at least one critic.
The mayor.
Steve McFarlin said his intersections are safe and his community doesn't need them.
"We have found that over the past five years, we've had 20 accidents that could be attributed to red light infractions," McFarlin said.
McFarlin said while cameras raise money in other cities, that's not the goal in St. Pete Beach.
"If we need to raise taxes, we'll look people in the eye and tell them what it's for, but to install this game of chance with the red lights, I just don't believe in it," McFarlin said.
City commissioners will vote on the issue tonight.
