The Children's Book of Virtues | Ahgoo Review

The Children?s Book of Virtues
edited by William J. Bennett
illustrated by Michael Hague

Certain books sit on the shelf screaming for you to pick them up. I don?t know what it is that gives a book that quality. Perhaps it?s the size, shape, cover art or maybe it?s some other magical quality that the book has. One really can?t be sure. Either way, this book is one of those special books. Because of that this review will not be in my traditional format. I hope you like it.

The chapters of the book are broken up by virtue. This book can be read cover to cover or by the virtue the reader is looking to instill upon their child. My preference is the latter.

The first chapter is Courage/Perseverance and it includes popular fables like The Tortoise and the Hare. The illustrations are beautiful and antique looking throughout the book. I think you will be pleased by the quality of the book and realize quickly that it is a keepsake to be treasured.

The editor of the book added a blurb under each of the titles describing the content of the following story. It is a nice preview of what the reader will be getting so they can best choose the virtue that fits their situation.

These are a few of the titles that you will find inside:

Please by Alicia Aspinwall
Boy Wanted by Frank Crane
Hercules and the Wagoner by Aesop
The Pasture by Robert Frost

The images inside portray each of the stories beautifully. There is artwork showing a little girl surrounded by fairies that is stunning. The artist has so much range showing his work from the whimsical scene of the little girl and the fairies to a very authentic portrayal of Native American?s in the story The Indian Cinderella. Children will love the amazing array of images that show animals, little children and more.

I hope you look into this book as the lessons inside are worth their weight in gold. Some of these virtues still come to mind when I am facing a decision and that is because of books like this one.
