Eureka, MO (KTVI) Some girls at Eureka High School are ?Redefining Beautiful?.? That`s the name of their student-run club which has an impressive mission:? to instill in young women that beauty is on the inside.? Saturday they used long, luxurious tresses to spread their message.
?Oh!? Oh my gosh that`s so weird!? shrieked Ellie Garabedian, a Eureka High senior, as a stylist cut off eight inches of her hair.
The hallway near the gym was transformed into a hair salon, by smart, strong young women.
?It?s just hair,? she said.? ?I have to remember that.? There are other things that make up being pretty, other than just hair and your looks.?

About two dozen women, some students, some not, donated eight inches of hair during the Redefining Beautiful club`s Saturday cut-a-thon.? The hair will be transformed into free wigs for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
?I`m excited about it, someone else needs it more than I do,? said Ellie.
Gayle Piepho had one of the longest, thickest heads of hair there.? She`s a math and physics teacher at Rockwood Summit and when she heard about the day long cut-a-thon at rival Eureka High, she decided to go for it.
?I had to tell a lot of my students so I couldn`t back out,? she said laughing, before her hair was cut.? As a high school teacher, she sees the trials and tribulations teenage girls face on a daily basis.? She`s on board with the Redefining Beautiful club`s message.
?Hair is just hair, it`s something on the outside, and that`s something I`m trying to instill in my daughters,? said Piepho.? ?It doesn`t matter what you`re wearing.? It doesn`t matter what your hair looks like.? It`s what you are in the inside.? It matters that you`re the best you that you can be, and that`s what makes you beautiful.?
Eureka Junior Jessica Bloomrosen helped found the Redefining Beautiful club last school year.
?Our goal is to raise self-esteem through service,? she said.? ?We do things at school like putting up post it notes in the bathrooms with encouraging notes and messages on the mirrors for girls to see.?
?There is this pressure to always go with the flow, always do whatever`s popular at the time, but that`s not what really matters anyway,? she said.
The message resonated with Jill Crane, a mother who donated her hair, too.
?It`s unbelievable to me that these girls are in high school and they have such insight into who they are and who they want to be,? she said.? ?It makes me proud of them and proud to be a part of it.?
